About our Guest: Dr. Kari Stubbs
Dr. Kari Stubbs is a PhD educator and edtech executive who has spent her career at the intersection of technology, learning, and child development. A former ISTE board member, she has worked alongside school districts across the country helping them think carefully about where and how technology serves students best.
In her current work she sits with early childhood directors who describe a kindergarten readiness crisis unlike anything they have seen before. Children arriving without the foundational skills that make learning possible. She believes the edtech conversation is asking the right questions about technology after children arrive in school buildings. Her work asks what happened in the five years before they got there.
The First Five: Before Screens is her free weekly newsletter and forthcoming book built around brain based parenting strategies for the first five years of a child's life. It sits at the intersection of neuroscience, intentional parenting, and the urgent question of how we raise children who are genuinely ready to learn, connect, and thrive in a world shaped by AI.
She spent fourteen years at BrainPOP, whose mission to ignite curiosity about the world within and around young learners deeply informed her thinking about how digital tools can support rather than replace the human interactions that build developing brains.
