Dub Talk Retro 002 - A Thousand and One Nights

Dub Talk Retro 002 - A Thousand and One Nights

Author: dubtalkpodcast September 11, 2021 Duration: 1:27:46

Who here remembers the 1960s? Probably not many, which is why we're taking the Dub Talk podcast back to the summer of love & adult cartoons. Yes our desert wanderers Noah, Amon, and special guest star Megan (@Brainchild129) have dusted off the previously lost dub of Osama Tezuka's 1969 feature film "A Thousand & One Nights". This ain't your kids' Aladdin story either, instead featuring psychadelic visuals, whole lotta nudity, and this oddly perplexing English dub made by Italians of all folks. Grab your magic horse & put the kids to bed, for an episode truly fitting of the term retro.

Ever find yourself wondering how a particular line was delivered in the studio, or which voice actor just absolutely nailed a challenging scene? Dub Talk digs into those details. This isn't just a checklist of what's new; it's a conversation about the craft and character behind the English adaptations of anime. We get into the performances that bring favorite roles to life, discussing the nuances that make a dub feel authentic or fall flat. You'll hear us break down episodes and films, talking about directorial choices, script adaptations, and the occasional brilliant or baffling casting decision. It's for anyone who appreciates the art of the dub, from seasoned fans to those just curious about what happens after the original recording booth. Tune in to the Dub Talk podcast for thoughtful, often lively reviews that go beyond the subtitles. We're here to talk about the voices you know, the ones you're about to discover, and the work that goes into making an imported story feel like it was spoken just for you.
