If you’ve ever looked at your life and thought, “I should be further along by now,” you’re not alone, and you’re not broken. That mindset is what I call living in the gap, and it can drain your joy even while you’re doing the hard work to grow. 

I’m pulling insights from *The Gap and the Gain* and grounding them in Scripture to show a better way forward: measure backward. The gain is gratitude with receipts. We walk through 1 Samuel 7:12 and Samuel’s Ebenezer stone, a physical reminder of a spiritual truth: “Thus far the Lord has helped us.” We also sit with Deuteronomy 8:2 and the call to remember the whole way through the wilderness, telling the truth about what hurt while still honoring what God formed in you.
