Exit Point #14 - Roch Malnuit

Exit Point #14 - Roch Malnuit

Author: Exit Point May 27, 2022 Duration: 1:57:12

Roch Malnuit started BASE jumping in 2003, at the age of 21. Roch learned how to jump from his father who is a pioneer in the sport. Roch moved to Chamonix when he was in high school to play ice hockey and soon after dedicated himself to climbing and jumping in the Alps. He has over 2000 BASE jumps and has opened many exits in his home region. He has also completed technical alpine ascents and wingsuit BASE jumps in Antarctica and Pakistan.

He is heavily involved in the sport and is President of the French BASE Association. Roch also provides teaching and guiding with his Rock Drop BASE jumping school. He believes that being a good coach is not just about performance, but also being able to support and advise students on their path in the sport. When he’s not out jumping, you can find Roch in his hometown of Chamonix, rock climbing, snowboarding, paragliding, or spending time with his two daughters.

There's a particular kind of person drawn to the very edge of a cliff, a building, or an antenna, where the only way down is to leap. Exit Point is for them, and for anyone fascinated by what happens in that intense space between the decision to go and the ground far below. Hosts Laurent Frat and Matt Blank delve into the precise world of BASE jumping, but this isn't just a technical manual. The conversations naturally expand to explore the broader culture surrounding this extreme pursuit-the mindset, the community, and the constant negotiation with risk that defines it. You'll hear from individuals who have dedicated their lives to aerial sports and wilderness exploration, unpacking how they prepare, make critical decisions in split seconds, and process the profound experiences that come from human flight. Each episode feels like a candid hangar talk, offering tangible insights whether you're an experienced jumper with thousands of exits or someone who simply wonders what drives people to step into the sky.
