Festival Nation Ep. 9: SoFa 'Virtual' Music Festival - San Jose

Festival Nation Ep. 9: SoFa 'Virtual' Music Festival - San Jose

Author: Pantheon Media May 15, 2020 Duration: 51:15
Host Marla Davies explores the SoFa Music Festival - SIP - Shelter in Place Edition. The Music Festival/Street Fair held in April usually attracts between 3,000-5,000 people who travel to the South First Area of Downtown San Jose to listen to between 80-100 bands on more than 10 stages in a 2 block area. And living up to its name there's lots of sofas on the street to hang out on and enjoy the day's activities. This year the event was virtual with some 20 channels instead of stages where over 100 bands performed from their own play space. The event lasted over 7 hours and brought in some 7,000 unique visitors. This virtual event was so successful that a smaller version has continued on Saturday Nights called #sofasaturdays. I was so excited to be part of the festival doing both a 'Festival Nation' live podcast and hosting a hangout/vinyl party. Please excuse the quality of the Fil and Casey interviews. They were both from the live event and recorded on Zoom and played back for the podcast. Thanks for understanding. I always try to shoot for the best audio quality and even with the assistance of audio engineer extraordinaire Jerry Danielsen this is the best that we could get. I included the interviews because I felt the conversations were worthy. If you'd like to check out the Sofa Music Festivals #sofasaturdays and schedule your night at #sched, I'll be doing another live podcast on May 16th at 6. There's a particular energy that exists only in a field full of strangers united by a beat, a lyric, a shared sunset. Festival Nation with Marla Davies captures that intangible feeling in every episode. Hosted by the seasoned Bay Area radio voice Marla Davies, this podcast digs into the vibrant culture surrounding music festivals, far beyond just the lineup posters. Conversations here feel like the best kind of festival chat: spontaneous, insightful, and deeply connected to the music. You’ll hear from artists about what it’s really like to step onto that stage, from cultural figures who shape the scene, and from dedicated fans whose stories are the heart of the experience. Together, they explore how these temporary communities are built and why that festival spirit lingers long after the last chord fades. It’s about the enduring power of music to bring people together and create lasting memories. This Pantheon Media production is for anyone who has ever felt that collective rush or wonders what magic happens behind the scenes. Each episode is a reminder that the music is just the beginning of the story.
