Author: The Athletic June 22, 2026 Duration: 22:08

Venezuela has never qualified for a senior men’s or Women’s World Cup, but after some magic on June 9, the women’s team is one step away.

The Vinotinto qualified for the inter-confederation playoffs after drawing Uruguay 1-1 in the final matchday of the CONMEBOL Women’s Nations League thanks to an equalizing goal from captain Deyna Castellanos.

On this episode of Full Time, host Jillian Sakovits is joined by Castellanos to talk about her journey to the Portland Thorns from Florida State, the girls’ soccer tournament hosted by her foundation and getting one step closer to World Cup glory.
