Syria: In the Shadow of War and Revolution

Syria: In the Shadow of War and Revolution

Author: Geopolitical Horizons March 20, 2025 Duration: 50:59
In December 2024 when everyone thought the Arab spring in Syria was over, in just a week the long-term regime of the al-Assad dynasty collapsed and today we have a new regime in Damascus. The world and the regional powers have been extremely busy falling over themselves and meeting the new leadership. They are all demanding an inclusive government that respects the rights of minorities. Ahmed al-Shara formerly known as Abu Muhammed Joulani is now officially the President, but he rules over a country battered by decades of mis-rule and warfare and with Israel currently seizing territory. What does the future hold for Syria? How do we make sense of everything that has happened so rapidly?

Trying to make sense of the world's constant shifts requires more than just headlines; it needs context, depth, and a willingness to ask difficult questions. That's the space Geopolitical Horizons occupies. Each episode moves beyond the immediate news cycle to explore the deeper currents shaping our global landscape-the philosophical underpinnings of power, the cultural forces that drive societies, and the historical patterns that quietly repeat themselves. You’ll hear conversations that connect the dots between politics, identity, and human aspiration, offering not just analysis but a framework for personal understanding and growth in an interconnected age. This podcast is built on the idea that true education in current affairs involves examining the why behind the what, fostering a more nuanced perspective that listeners can carry into their own lives and communities. Geopolitical Horizons serves as a guide for those who feel that the standard narratives are insufficient, providing thoughtful commentary that is as concerned with the future of human society as it is with the day's events. It’s an invitation to look further, think deeper, and consider the vast horizon of possibilities that define our shared reality.
