The EU leaders met in Brussels to pledge their unconditional and uncritical support for Zelensky, and to escalate their rhetoric towards Russia. The EU’s plan to dramatically increase military spending has many problems. In the best case scenario, the Europeans will not see a significant increase in their military production for many years and Zelensky only has a few more months left of fighting power. The panic and desperation in Europe reflect a strategic vacuum as there are no good options as the war in coming to an end, while the US aims to reduce its footprint in Europe and mend ties with Russia in a great power compromise.
