Ian Proud argues that the liberal and "ethical" policies introduced in the 1990s have created an irrational foreign policy consisting of moral crusades without dissent, while domestically the important role of nationalism has been undermined. The failed proxy war in Ukraine could cause a shift in British policy by ending the former 25-30 years of idealist internationalism.
