Ep 1: Chris Charla, ID@Xbox

Author: Indie Or Die August 26, 2022 Duration: 33:15

Chris Charla is the director of the ID@Xbox program and helps independent developers self-publish their games on the Microsoft Xbox platform. Chris started his creative journey when it was all punk rock, with only a few dollars in his pocket, and nothing but a passion for games. Amongst the credits are his historical achievements in stalwarts of games media, in particular as the launch editor for what is now IGN.com. Where better to start than with a man who's job is helping the Indie-stry grow, and is the key to so many Indie-Devs having their work published.

Hosted by Pete Curulli and presented by Game On AUS, GOA Presents Indie Or Die pulls up a chair for candid, one-on-one conversations with the creators behind independent video games. This podcast digs into the real stories from developers across Australia and around the globe, focusing on the gritty realities of building a game outside the major studio system. Each episode is a deep dive into the creative process, where triumphs are celebrated, but so are the setbacks and hard lessons learned. You’ll hear about the long nights, the funding scrambles, and the personal costs that come with trying to make it in one of the world's most demanding creative fields. It’s a frank look at what it truly means to work in indie games, offering more than just success stories by giving equal weight to the failures and the resilience required to move past them. While the series is currently on hiatus, the existing archive of interviews remains an essential listen for anyone curious about the human effort behind their favourite games, providing a grounded, often inspiring perspective from the people who choose to make art in this space. Tune in to this podcast for authentic, unvarnished chats that you won’t find in a standard press release.
