S3E11 – Prophets of Totalitarianism

S3E11 – Prophets of Totalitarianism

Author: Governed by God January 25, 2023 Duration: 34:32
On this week's episode, I continue our series on the topic of tyranny and totalitarianism by looking at several writers and philosophers who predicted the future of totalitarianism. Two hundred years ago, Alexis de Tocqueville described what despotism would look like in a democratic nation. About one hundred years ago, C. S. Lewis predicted the rise of tyrants who would act for the "good" of the people. Lastly, about fifty years ago, R. J. Rushdoony warned of the nanny state and the idolatry the lies at its foundation. As we consider the words of these prophets of totalitarianism, let us think about what this means for us today. Where are we now? Have things gone too far? Are we too late? 00:30 - Passage of the Day: Ecclesiastes 5:8-9 (Oppression in the Land) 05:23 - Prophets of Totalitarianism As always, if you have any law/government related questions, feel free to email me at thegbgpodcast@gmail.com, and I will be happy to address them on the program. How should a person of faith understand the world of laws, politics, and civic duty? Governed by God explores that very question, offering a thoughtful and scripture-based examination of civil government and our role within it. This isn't about partisan politics, but rather a foundational look at how biblical principles intersect with the structures of human authority. Each episode digs into topics of law and civics, seeking to frame contemporary issues through a timeless lens. The host welcomes engagement, often addressing listener questions directly in the show, which adds a personal and practical dimension to the discussions. If you've ever wondered how your spiritual convictions inform your view of citizenship, justice, or societal order, this podcast provides a space for that exploration. Tune in for conversations that are both intellectually grounded and deeply rooted in Christian thought, challenging you to consider the intersection of divine truth and human governance.
