Season 2, Episode 11 - Twickenham Finalists, choosing a team, hair length and promotion

Author: Matt, Lou, Jodie, Dubs, Lucy and Mollie May 20, 2023 Duration: 1:37:17
Welcome to Episode 11 of GrassRoots – Women’s Rugby from the Roots Up. In this extra special episode we welcome the finalists from the Papa John’s Plate competition. Both Avonmouth Claire’s Ladies and Workington Zebra Finches had the honour of playing at Twickenham; we explore the day, what it meant for their respective teams, the joy of winning and the pain of losing. It is a brilliant account of a special day for both teams, and gives great insight into how much work went into it and what effect it has had on their clubs and teams. We also discuss how to choose a rugby team and Mollie makes an interesting suggestion. Jodie laments playing against players with long hair and we ruminate on the pitfalls of promotion and why playoffs are a good idea. Don’t forget to enter our competition! This isn't a show about professional contracts or international headlines; it's a bi-monthly conversation dedicated entirely to the vibrant, chaotic, and joyful world of women's rugby at the club level. Each episode feels like pulling up a chair in the clubhouse after a match, diving into the stories of the teams and the unforgettable characters that make the community so special. You'll hear about the essence and culture that binds players together, from the muddy pitches to the socials, and get a genuine spotlight on squads competing in various leagues across the country. Adding a unique perspective, the legendary Cherie (ChezSez) regularly shares intimate insights from her own life in rugby, offering a personal lens on the game's triumphs and challenges. This podcast is built for anyone who loves the unvarnished, authentic side of sports-the camaraderie, the grassroots intrigue, and the pure passion that fuels every scrum and lineout.
