Cold Heart-Wilhelm Hauff

In this audio adaptation of William Henry Hudson's classic novel, Green Mansions: A Romance of the Tropical Forest, we follow the profound transformation of Abel, a young Venezuelan fleeing the ruins of his political ambitions. Stripped of his wealth and status, he ventures deep into the Guyanese wilderness, a place he initially sees as a source of gold or a subject for his journal. Instead, he finds disorientation and a deeper longing. The narrative unfolds as Abel encounters a secluded Indigenous community and learns of a forbidden, verdant forest they avoid-a place whispered to be inhabited by something otherworldly. This podcast weaves fiction with rich observations of nature and culture, exploring themes of loss, discovery, and the human yearning for connection in an untamed world. Each episode immerses you in the sounds and silences of the jungle, charting Abel's journey from desperate fortune-seeker to a man forever changed by the mysteries he uncovers. It's a story that sits at the intersection of adventure, natural science, and societal reflection, asking what we truly seek when we escape into the wild. Listen for a timeless exploration of the heart's hidden landscapes, as captivating now as when Hudson first penned it.
