#1996 The Score

#1996 The Score

Author: Vegasworldinc February 13, 2026 Duration: 1:08:09
It's a limited episode series celebrating the year 1996! It's the 30th anniversary of many classic albums from that year and we chose twelve to "re-review!" Fugees was a group that didn't benefit from a stellar debut like Columbia Records labelmate Nas. They could of easily faded away like other artist from the early 90s whose sound seemed stuck in a fun but brief era of East Coast hip-hop. Lucky for them, producer Salaam Remi's remix of the record "Vocab" was the sound/vibe that would clear the path for their incredible follow-up album, The Score. The competiton was thick in 1996 but the Fugees had a secret weapon. Lauryn Hill's fierce mic skills combined with her powerful and melodic voice gave the group an edge that would catapult them to success beyond the parameters of dope beats and bars. Let's talk about it!
