Homeschool With Montessori

In this episode I learn about homeschool with the Montessori method. Jeanne Marie talks about how she embraced Montessori and the reasons why it aligns with her heart and beliefs on learning, living and parenting. She offers essential tools to help parents follow our intuition, trust ourselves and trust our children.

Parenting Mentor and Montessori Educator

Jeanne-Marie Paynel, M.Ed, is a Parenting Mentor and Home Consultant dedicated to helping parents let go of the overwhelm so they can enjoy raising self-sufficient and resilient children with ease.

Host of The Art of Parenting podcast and Founder of Your Parenting Mentor (formerly Voila Montessori) Jeanne Marie guides expectant parents, caregivers and parents of young children on how to better prepare their homes and themselves for their children to thrive during the first years of life. She believes that a supportive and peaceful atmosphere at home will allow every child to grow up as an independent, confident and capable learner. She combines her three passions: Montessori, Conscious Parenting and Positive Discipline. Her mission is to help parents appreciate the true importance of their role - not as servants or teachers, but as supporters and guides of their children's natural development.

In This Episode

In this episode we delve into the importance of trust in learning. Trust in our children and what they want to learn and trust in ourselves. Jeanne Marie explains how this is a fundamental part of Montessori and homeschooling. We discuss;

  • Maria Montessori and the Montessori Method
  • Understanding human development and why that is a foundational piece of Montessori
  • What sets Montessori apart from traditional school
  • A prepared environment for our children- supporting the curiosity to learn
  • Mixed Ages, freedom of movement, freedom within limits and following the child
  • The differences between Montessori and other child led methods
  • The 4 Planes of a Child's Development in Montessori
  • Montessori in Homeschooling
  • Mindful Parenting and ways we can practice being more present
  • Jeanne Marie's thoughts on Screen time and the influence on children's development

My biggest takeaway from my interview with Jeanne Marie is that whether we are using the Montessori method at a school or in homeschooling, the foundation always remains the same. The key values in the Montessori method are actually the same key values in self directed learning. That is trust in your children, be their advocate in curiosity and support life long learning.
