Declutter Your Homeschool

"We all have a clutter story.

  • Physical Clutter
  • Emotional Clutter
  • Relationship Clutter
  • Time Clutter
  • Digital Clutter

We all have some form of clutter in our lives. Because as life happens, we take things in, we build stories and relationships with these items and then there comes a time when it runs its course and we are moving to a new faze in life...and so we have to learn how to let things go.

Sometimes that's difficult." Jaycel Murphy

This episode was originally recorded in my club, Honey! I'm Homeschooling on the Clubhouse app.

Jaycel Murphy is a former social worker, Neurolinguistic programming coach and Elite Declutter Coach. She supports people in decluttering their homes and their lives. Her goal is to normalize the conversation around clutter to address the stigmas associated, and lessen feelings of shame, guilt and overwhelm.

Decluttering and Deschooling

Jaycel joined Tira Hunter and myself for a discussion on decluttering our homeschool.

This conversation brought us deep into the idea that decluttering is not just about our physical space.

Decluttering, like Deschooling, is tied to our mental and emotional space. The lines of decluttering and deschooling are interwoven with the idea of letting go of beliefs that have served us for a certain time or purpose but that may no longer fit with our core values. These two practices are deeply tied to society and cultural expectations and the narratives we carry.

We stress that there is no right and wrong. It's all a part of the journey.

In This Episode

In this episode our wonderful conversation explores:

  • Decluttering and Values- Our values informs everything that we bring into our lives and what we hold on to. The first step to decluttering (and deschooling) begins with our core values and belief system
  • Are you a homeschool resource hoarder? Why is it so hard to let go of our kids old artwork? Why is it so hard to let go of clutter.
  • How do we know what is meaningful and what to let go of?
  • Tips on organizing and decluttering your space
  • Defining Clutter
  • The relationship between overconsumption, procrastination and clutter
  • Large family? So Many things? Overwhelmed? Will the family be part of the process? What are the tools to make it easier.
  • Setting Physical and Emotional Boundaries
  • Maintaining emotional ground zero with other peoples stuff
  • The difference between hoarding and collecting

What's Your Clutter Story?

So what's your clutter story? What practices and expectations not longer match your core values? What are your core values?

Ashley Stuart also joined our conversation. She is a speaker, Professional Organizer and Author. You can find both Jaycel and Ashley on the Clubhouse app on The Dear Clutter Show in The Dear Clutter Club.
