Character Building: The Key to Success in Life

Character Building: The Key to Success in Life

Author: The Living Hour January 29, 2026 Duration: 16:31

Listen to episode 1091 of the Inspirational Living podcast: Character Building & The Law of Reciprocity. Edited and adapted from The Rhythm of Life by Charles Brodie Patterson.

Inspirational Podcast Excerpt: We have the power within ourselves to feel, to think, and to act — and it is the use or misuse of this power that makes for character or the lack of it. The ideal person is the individual who is thoroughly rounded out, who has used to the full the attributes of soul, the faculties of mind, and the physical senses — and who through their use has developed soul, and mind, and body to their fullest extent.

When we say that a person has a strong character, we mean that they are living life in a strong, true way — that they have strength of mind and purpose, and that they are able to carry both into their daily work. Such an individual commands the respect of their neighbors and co-workers. But the weak, characterless person (the one who is negative in all their thinking and doing) is neither respected nor trusted by those around them.

For nearly a decade, the voices of some of history's most profound thinkers have found a new home in the modern day. Inspirational Living: Life Lessons for Success & Happiness, from The Living Hour, draws directly from the original texts of classic writers like Ralph Waldo Emerson, Helen Keller, and Booker T. Washington. Instead of modern interpretations, each episode is carefully adapted from their actual essays and books, allowing their timeless wisdom on perseverance, inner peace, and purpose to speak for itself. This approach creates a unique space where personal growth is explored through a historical lens, connecting lessons from the past to the challenges of today. With over twenty-five million downloads, the podcast has become a trusted resource for anyone looking to cultivate resilience, improve their mental and physical well-being, and explore the spiritual dimensions of a meaningful life. You'll hear curated insights that address the whole self-mind, body, and spirit-offering practical philosophy for navigating work, relationships, and personal ambition.
