At Cal State Fullerton, students are buzzing with purpose as they manage a thriving apiary that’s not just producing honey—but powering research, community support, and real-world solutions. Nestled on 26 acres, this living lab lets undergrads from biology, engineering, and beyond study bee behavior and threats like the varroa mite and climate change. Funded by the National Institute of Food and Agriculture, the program offers hands-on experience while generating honey that funds the Arboretum and a café supporting young adults in transition. Through partnerships with local beekeepers, students gain practical skills—and a deeper commitment to saving our vital pollinators.
