A Touch of Sugar - Viola Davis is a true American treasure. As we all know, she currently stars in the ABC hit series, How to Get Away with Murder, for which she received the primetime Emmy Award for “Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series.” She had also been featured in such outstanding films as “The Help,” “Widows” and “Fences,” to name but a few. In fact, Viola is the first black actress to win Tony, Oscar and Emmy Awards. Adding to those honors, she has received two Screen Actors Guild Awards. Time magazine has twice named her one of the 100 most influential people in the world. Furthermore, Viola and her husband, Julius Tennon, develop and produce independent film, theater, television, and digital content across all facets of the entertainment industry. Yet above and beyond even these incalculable accolades and accomplishments, Viola is also a passionate humanitarian who is now advocating on behalf of a health issue that is close to her heart: Type 2 diabetes. Recently, she learned that she is one of the 84 million American adults living with prediabetes. Having seen the realities of the disease firsthand, she worked with Merck as the narrator and spokesperson for their Type 2 diabetes documentary film, A Touch of Sugar, that premiered earlier this year during the Tribeca Film Festival. On this segment, Viola and Jane discuss the takeaways from this groundbreaking film, her own lifestyle advice, and what’s next for this acclaimed actress and mother who is single handedly helping to make the world Better Than Before.
