Is Earth Being Watched? Can Alien Civilizations see Earth?Past, present and future stars that can see Earth as a transiting exoplanet is a new paper by Dr. Jackie Faherty and Dr. Lisa Kalteneggar. It reports that "In the search for life in the cosmos, transiting exoplanets are currently our best targets. With thousands already detected, our search is entering a new era of discovery with upcoming large telescopes that will look for signs of ‘life’ in the atmospheres of transiting worlds. Previous work has explored the zone from which Earth would be visible while transiting the Sun1–4. However, these studies considered only the current position of stars, and did not include their changing vantage point over time. Here we report that 1,715 stars within 100 parsecs from the Sun are in the right position to have spotted life on a transiting Earth since early human civilization."Link:Past, present and future stars that can see Earth as a transiting exoplanet by Dr. Lisa Kalteneggar and Dr. Jackie Fahertyhttps://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-021-03596-yhttps://carlsaganinstitute.cornell.edu @CSInsthttps://twitter.com/CSInsthttps://astro.cornell.edu/lisa-kaltenegger@KalteneggerLisahttps://twitter.com/KalteneggerLisaThe visualization by Deion Desir and Jackie Fahertyhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GL0SJTFWejAOpenSpace software used to do the renderings: https://www.openspaceproject.com/This Is How Aliens Might Search for Human Lifehttps://www.wired.com/story/this-is-how-aliens-might-search-for-human-life/Want to support the channel?Patreon: https://www.patreon.com/EventHorizonShow00:00:00 Intro00:00:39 Bio00:02:15 Who can see us transiting?0:06:16 Gaia Mission00:09:25 Average timespan that an Exoplanet can see Earth00:12:50 Earth has broadcast a biosignature for billions of years00:20:44 We Produce Radio Signals00:25:21 TESS NASA Mission00:30:50 How would Alien scientists study Earth?00:37:28 Somewhere in the Galaxy Earth is in a textbook00:41:00 Unambiguous SETI signals00:50:45 How many worlds will be able to watch us?Follow us at other places!Website: https://www.eventhorizonshow.com/Twitter: https://twitter.com/jmgeventhorizonInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/jmgeventhorizon/Music featured on Event Horizonhttps://stellardrone.bandcamp.com/https://migueljohnson.bandcamp.com/https://leerosevere.bandcamp.com/https://aeriumambient.bandcamp.com/FOOTAGE:NASAESA/HubbleESO - M.KornmesserESO - L.CalcadaESO - Jose Francisco Salgado (josefrancisco.org)NAOJUniversity of WarwickGoddard Visualization StudioLangley Research CenterPixabay#arewebeingwatched #exoplanets #alienlife
