Commission moving to restrict comments

Commission moving to restrict comments

Author: Wyatt Cox January 23, 2026 Duration: 1:01
Some people were upset by our recent commentaries suggesting the White Pine County Commission is doing the bidding of its backers. Now the commission appears ready to go even further by limiting what you, the voter, are allowed to say.
An item on Wednesday’s agenda would sharply restrict public comment. Opening comments would be limited to agenda items only. Anything else would be pushed to the end of the meeting, forcing citizens to wait two to four hours to be heard. Written comments would be discouraged, while commissioners retain control over how verbal comments are recorded.
The commission has already taken to editing meeting minutes after the fact, which is exactly why I record these meetings—they can’t change those recordings. Combined with efforts to force out the county finance manager, this risks making an already troubled commission even more dysfunctional and could once again put White Pine County under state oversight.
Funny, these commissioners are acting less like Republicans, and more like the Communists they claim to decry. You know they want to shut me up.
