Ajay Shenoy is an Associate Professor in the Department of Economics at UCSC, a faculty affiliate of the Center for Effective Global Action, and a member of the steering committee of the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation. His research has two main branches: macroeconomic development – understanding what innovations can help low-income economies increase their productivity, and political economy – documenting how power is won and exercised within political systems. He has published in the leading economics journals. He is also one of the first to develop and teach large online courses at UCSC. We discuss his research as well as how the rise of AI is affecting teaching and learning experiences, especially for online courses.
