Kate Holbrook - A Change of Heart

Kate Holbrook - A Change of Heart

Author: The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints June 3, 2020 Duration: 24:15
One of the most hopeful messages of the gospel of Jesus Christ is that no matter our present circumstances, change and improvement is possible. But, sometimes the prospect of growth and change feels overwhelming and difficult. On today's episode we're joined by Kate Holbrook, the Church's managing historian of women's history and co-editor of "At the Pulpit," to discuss the life and teachings of a former Relief Society board member named Leone Jacobs (1903-1990) and her 1949 discourse about change beginning small and simple, in our hearts. Tune in to learn about Jacobs' mission to Syria and Palestine in the 1930s, how Kate discovered Leone's carefully-kept everyday journals, and how the Spirit can help us change our hearts and turn outward to see and serve others. Full Discourse https://www.churchhistorianspress.org/at-the-pulpit/part-3/chapter-33?lang=eng&highlight=Leone%7CJacobs "One of the most glorious principles of life is that we can always rise above our present level. How discouraging life would be if once we found ourselves involved in unworthy conduct we could not lift ourselves up and out and on to better ways, but we do not have to remain as we are. Each day offers a fresh beginning." - Leone O. Jacobs

Within the vast tapestry of faith, individual voices create the most enduring threads. The Latter-day Saint Women Podcast focuses on these voices, weaving together personal narratives and spiritual insights from women across the globe. This isn't a lecture series, but a collection of conversations and stories that feel like sitting down with a thoughtful friend. You'll hear from historians exploring the lives of pioneering women whose choices helped build communities, and you'll listen to contemporary members discuss how they navigate modern challenges with gospel principles. Each episode of this podcast feels grounded and real, addressing topics like resilience, service, discipleship, and personal revelation through the lens of everyday experience. The common thread is a lived faith, presented without pretense. It’s a space for reflection on what it means to be a woman of faith in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, connecting the legacy of the past with the living testimony of the present. Tuning in regularly, you encounter a diverse chorus of perspectives, each contributing to a richer understanding of spiritual life. The discussions here are meant to uplift, validate, and sometimes gently challenge, always centering on the personal journey within a shared belief. This podcast naturally finds its home in moments of quiet contemplation or daily routine, offering substance and connection.
