In theta brain waves, the brain state of rapid eye movement (REM), sleep (dreams), hypnosis, and lucid dreaming is represented. The barely conscious states shortly before sleeping and just after awakening are also represented.

Theta is the boundary between the conscious and subconscious worlds. By learning to access and affect the subconscious part of ourselves that is ordinarily inaccessible to our waking minds, we can learn to use a conscious, waking Theta brain wave.
