I Left Kenya To Find Myself Part 1 | Legally Clueless Ep 369

Author: Legally Clueless March 16, 2026 Duration: 37:27
In this episode of the Legally Clueless Podcast, Blessing shares the first part of her deeply personal story. Born in Nairobi to very young parents, Blessing grew up moving between homes, from Nairobi to Nakuru, Thika, and relatives’ houses, searching for stability in a childhood filled with uncertainty.

After losing her father at a young age and navigating an emotionally distant relationship with her mother, Blessing struggled with the feeling that she had no solid place to call home. That instability followed her into adulthood, shaping how she approached friendships, career choices, and her sense of identity. Despite performing well in school and receiving opportunities for further education, Blessing found herself unable to choose a path because stability itself felt unfamiliar. Feeling suffocated by uncertainty and desperate for a fresh start, she made a life-changing decision: to leave Kenya and work in the Gulf as a domestic worker.

In Part 1, Blessing reflects on:
  • Growing up between multiple homes
  • Losing her father at a young age
  • The emotional impact of instability in childhood
  • Struggling to choose a career path
  • Feeling like she had no place to belong
  • Her decision to leave Kenya in search of freedom
This episode explores what it means to grow up without roots, and the longing to find a place where you finally feel grounded. Part 2 of Blessing’s story will be out next Monday.

Each week on Legally Clueless, Adelle Onyango turns the microphone toward the beautifully messy reality of growth. As a well-known Kenyan media personality and social activist, she doesn't offer polished advice from a stage, but instead documents her own unvarnished experiences, framing her life as an evolving and unapologetically African woman. This creates a rare and welcoming atmosphere where uncertainty isn't a flaw but a shared starting point. The heart of this podcast lives in the stories-Adelle opens the space for a chorus of African voices to share personal narratives that might teach you something one moment and have you laughing or crying the next. These aren't theoretical discussions; they're authentic accounts from everyday lives, full of the specific textures and truths that often go unheard. Tuning in feels less like attending a lecture and more like sitting in on a powerful, ongoing conversation where the only requirement is to be human. You'll find a sense of connection in hearing others navigate the same complexities you do, all within the candid and compassionate world this podcast builds every episode.
