Salsoul Records Part 1 - The Originals - Liquid Sunshine @ The Face Radio - Show #294

Hello Groovers, This week's Liquid Sunshine is a deep dive into Salsoul Records—the legendary Philadelphia label that championed sophisticated soul, funk, and disco when the mainstream wasn't listening, displayed through unusual original 12" records that showcase the label's incredible range and vision. From Instant Funk's raw edge to Loleatta Holloway's timeless elegance, Joe Bataan's Latin-tinged rap-funk to The Salsoul Orchestra's orchestral mastery, these tracks prove Salsoul wasn't just a disco label—it was a cultural institution that understood soul at its deepest. It's part one of a Salsoul retrospective: tonight we honor the originals and the history, next week we'll explore how contemporary producers continue the legacy with modern edits of these same classics.
