Navys Unmanned Sea Drones: A New Era of Warfare

The Navy is expanding its unmanned sea drone program in San Diego, developing small, versatile boats that can operate independently or remotely. These drones serve various purposes, including submarine hunting, mine detection, scouting, and missile launching. The Navy has introduced a new job title for robotics warfare specialists and opened three new drone divisions, focusing on sixteen-foot vessels that can switch missions quickly and cost under one million dollars each. By 2045, about one hundred fifty of the Navys five hundred ships could be these unmanned vessels, including underwater ones. The USS Theodore Roosevelt is the first to fully integrate an operational sea drone for a big deployment. These drones are cheaper to run than manned destroyers, costing just fifteen to twenty thousand dollars a day compared to seven hundred thousand. This shift towards unmanned warfare is set to revolutionize future naval power.
