On May 23rd, 1993, Dorothy Pitcher (47) and Danielle Pitcher (14) were kidnapped while walking along highway 181 at the s-curve, in Sunizona, Arizona. The mother and daughter left home at approximately 1pm to walk the 3 miles to the local RV Park store located on the corner of highway 181 and highway 191 in Cochise County, Arizona. It was common for the family to walk to and from the store. However, Dorothy was adamant about not accepting rides from strangers and expressed this to her children.

Along their route, Dorothy and Danielle stopped at the house of one of Dorothy’s older daughters and asked if she would like to join them. She declined. This was the last time anyone spoke to Dorothy and Danielle. After this encounter, there were few sightings of the two.

Dorothy & Danielle Pitcher were last seen on highway 181, at the s-curve, in Cochise County, 1.5 miles away from their home on Ash Creek Road in Sunizona, Arizona. A dog was brought in and picked up the mother and daughter’s scent at the store and followed it along highway 181, but the scent was dropped at the s-curve. Husband and father, Jack Pitcher, was ruled out as a suspect after passing 2 polygraph tests. There have been ‘person(s) of interest’ but to this day, no arrests have been made.

‘Someone knows what happened to Dorothy and Danielle Pitcher on May 23rd, 1993.’

Dawn Pitcher continues to search for answers to what happened to her mother and sister and will not rest until she finds justice for Dorothy & Danielle and peace for her family. She created the organization Missing Pitchers in 1993 to aid in the search for her mother and sister and has spoken out about the case.

The Pitcher case remains open and criminal activity is suspected. It is now considered a murder investigation.

There are names that linger in the air of a town long after the news vans have left, and stories that exist only in the fragmented memories of those left waiting. Locating the Lost sits with those stories. This isn't a procedural rundown of cold cases, but a deliberate effort to recenter the human beings at the heart of every disappearance. Each episode focuses on a single person who has vanished, weaving together the details of their life, the circumstances of their last known moments, and the enduring impact of their absence on family and community. You'll hear the subtle tensions in a detective's voice, the raw hope in a sibling's recollection, and the heavy silence that follows an unanswered question. The goal here isn't sensationalism, but preservation-giving auditory space to narratives that risk fading from public consciousness. By tuning into this podcast, you become a witness to these searches, understanding that every case file represents a world upended. It's a sobering, necessary listen for anyone who believes that forgetting is a second disappearance.
