Car Plunges Off Palo Duro Canyon, Rescue Underway
Bache's Texas Adventure: Franklin's Grandson's Surprising Role
Richard Bache Junior, Benjamin Franklins grandson, played a significant role in Texas history. Born in Philadelphia, he served as postmaster of Philadelphia and captained a volunteer artillery unit. In 1832, he moved to Texas, joining the Louisiana Independent Volunteers and participating in the Battle of San Jacinto. He later served as chief clerk of the Texas navy, worked as commissioner of the navy yard, customs collector, and justice of the peace. Despite family rivalries, he helped draft the first state constitution and was elected to the Texas State Senate. He died in 1848, leaving a legacy of public service.
