Elo Urbanovsky: Shaping Texas Tech's Landscape

Elo Urbanovsky, a West Texas native and Texas A&M graduate, played a pivotal role in shaping Texas Tech Universitys campus from 1949. After teaching and serving in the Navy, he tackled infrastructure issues, focusing on the central historic district. He coordinated new roads and buildings, established the Department of Park Administration and Landscape Architecture, and even placed the Will Rogers statue. Known for his tough demeanor, Urbanovsky demanded polish and tech savvy from his students. His influence extended statewide, earning him top honors and collaborations with governors and Lady Bird Johnson. He passed in 1988, but Texas Tech dedicated Urbanovsky Park in 1993 to honor his landscaping legacy.
