McGillicuddy and Murder's Pawn Shop is set in 1921. Maude, the main character and narrator, gets a diary and begins to write in it. The only problem is, her life is boring. She types all day until her fingers are sore, and then comes home, sleeps, and does it all over again. She wishes her life was an adventure. And it isn't. That is, until one day, when she discovers an unusual pawn shop. She finds a tiny fragment of china—with nothing on it but a bright blue eye. Maude takes the china eye home with her, little realizing that she's cursed herself straight into a brand new life.

Step into a dusty, peculiar shop in 1921, where the most mundane life is about to be irrevocably cracked open. McGillicuddy and Murder's Pawn Shop, created by Minerva Sweeney Wren, follows Maude, a woman whose diary entries are as dull as dishwater until a single, haunting artifact changes everything. That tiny fragment of china, painted with a lone blue eye, is more than a curiosity; it's a key. Unwittingly, Maude's purchase curses her, pulling her far from her boring existence and into a hidden city layer. Here, the jazz age has a sinister, supernatural twin. The speakeasies she stumbles into cater to a paranormal clientele, where plague masks are more than historical costume and doorways don't always lead to places on any map. This narrative fiction podcast blends comedy with the eerie, finding humor in the absurdity of navigating this bizarre underground. Each episode pulls you deeper into Maude's bewildering journey as she trades predictability for a life swimming with strange characters and inexplicable rules. You'll hear her grapple with the sheer oddity of it all, from the so-called "thingies" to the terrifying implications of her new reality. It's a story about searching for meaning and finding it in the most unexpected, and often alarming, corners of a world you never knew was there. Tune in for a serialized tale that is both whimsical and unsettling, proving that sometimes the most extraordinary adventures begin with a single, very bad decision in a pawn shop.
