Padma Shri Dr. C. R. Chandrashekar is a true pioneer in mental health care. Honored with the Padma Shri in 2024, his work continues to inspire change and break the stigma around mental health in India.


A former senior professor of Psychiatry & Deputy Medical superintendent, NIMHANS, Bangalore, he is fondly known as the "People’s Psychiatrist". As a consultant & researcher for the World Health organization, he has contributed 70 plus scientific articles in international & national journals on mental health. He has authored 300+ books and continues his lifelong dedication to accessible psychiatry and public awareness for mental health.
He established SAMADHANA Centre (free consultation centre for mental health) in 2007 & has treated 30,000 + people free of cost. In Prasanna Counseling Center, since 1980 over 1 lakh patients have received treatment free of cost from him. Dr. Chandrashekar is the recipient of numerous awards & honours, like the National Awards for popularizing Science by Government of India & University Grant Commission (U.G.C), Rajyotsava Award and more.
