Phoenix Storm Warning: Safety Tips | Mesa News

A severe thunderstorm warning hit metro Phoenix Tuesday night, bringing 60 mph winds and quarter-inch hail—prompting residents to seek shelter in interior rooms on the lowest floor. Originating over Gila Bend and moving north, the storm threatened damage to roofs, siding, and trees, with major roads like I-8, Route 238, and Route 85 at risk. With monsoon season in full swing, Arizona’s afternoon storms may be brief but pack a punch. Weather experts urge immediate indoor shelter at the first thunderclap, waiting 30 minutes post-storm before re-emerging—and staying away from electronics, plumbing, and windows. Don’t forget your pets: keep them safe indoors, and secure loose outdoor items before the wind picks up.
