E203: Create the Calm: Lesser Known and Underappreciated Ways to Reduce Stress as a Mom with ADHD

Author: Patricia Sung | ADHD Coach for Moms with ADHD August 24, 2023 Duration: 30:43

Are you juggling 6,358 things?

If life's been a little too much today or in general, let's talk. I'm hanging on for dear life as things get next-level chaotic over here in the Sung house…

And I haven't lost my ish on anyone yet! *celebration*

Last year, I couldn't have said that.

I would have yelled at kids or my spouse or both, felt awful about it, and then hid under my covers and as I sunk into shame and guilt.

But this year is different.

I'm prioritizing different things, and they aren't fancy or obvious self care ideas. It's the little things. It's the tools I've built up in my emotional regulation toolbox to take care of myself, which allow me to keep moving forward and get stuff done without shutting down or exploding. Even with a giant weight on your shoulders, you can be mentally present with your family. (You can watch my Instagram stories @motherhoodinadhd for the behind the scenes of the chaos LOL.)

Listen in for what's helping me right now, as I hope it helps you, too.

I'm also sharing behind the scenes of the retreat in this episode, because you are invited! Come hang out with me and 8 other mamas next month! You deserve rest, care, and relaxation, too. Because taking care of yourself IS taking care of your family.

Ever feel like you're running a marathon with no finish line in sight, while everyone else seems to be on a leisurely stroll? That mental clutter, the constant search for your keys, the guilt over forgotten appointments-it's not a personal failing. It's often the lived experience of motherhood when you're also navigating adult ADHD. Motherhood in ADHD is a space created specifically for that reality. Hosted by Patricia Sung, an ADHD coach who gets it because she lives it, this podcast digs into the intersection of a neurodivergent brain and the demands of raising a family. You'll find conversations that move beyond simple tips, offering brain-based science and practical strategies tailored for moms whose minds work differently. Episodes explore how to structure your days in a way that works with your ADHD, not against it, and rethink parenting approaches to reduce overwhelm for both you and your kids. It’s about education that leads to self-compassion, replacing shame with understanding. Tune in for honest talk about productivity that actually sticks, managing mental health, and building systems that acknowledge your unique wiring. This is more than just a podcast; it’s a companion for redefining what success looks like in your home and in your mind, helping you move from barely coping to truly thriving.
