077 - Robbie Murch from the Identification of Music Group

Author: Grahame Farmer September 29, 2020 Duration: 37:56

This week on the BOOST Podcast, it's a Brighton Music Conference special which happens this week 1st & 2nd October.

This year BMC is a Virtual Conference due to the restrictions on numbers of people that can be together for COVID-19 safety.   Due to the current financial state of the electronic music industry and the ever-changing government guidelines the Brighton Music Conference team have taken the decision to give free access to the full virtual conference so that everyone in the industry can benefit from its content during these difficult and hard times.

In partnership with Beatport, the free virtual pass will give full access to the panel discussions, Q&As, workshops, tutorials and dj sets as well as exclusive footage. It will be streamed live and on-demand featuring: AFEM, AudioLock, Ben Stirling, BIMM, Carl Cox, Danny Howard, Darius Syrossian, DJ Mag, DJ Rap, DJ Paulette, East End Dubs, Fatboy Slim, Graeme Park, Hannah Wants, Harriet Jaxxon, Josh Butler, Krafty Kuts, Nicole Mouldaber, NTIA, Sister Bliss (Faithless), Rich Nxt, Stanton Warriors, SUAT, Ultra Music plus many more

The Identification of Music Group are a community made up of over 100,000 music fans. We began from the need to identify tracks from our favourite DJs.  They also host talks on topics relevant to electronic music culture and run their own artist development scheme, called ‘B Side’.  Robbie Murch is a Director at the group.  He was also supposed to have a panel at BMC 2020, but due to the change in restrictions, this now isn't possible.

I've kept this chat in because we spoke about Community, social media and there is loads of great content for you.

Grahame Farmer hosts Music Talk, a podcast that feels more like a series of candid conversations backstage than a formal interview show. Now in its third season, the focus remains on the practical realities of building a life in music, whether you're behind the decks or in the studio. Each episode is loaded with actionable advice and hard-won insights, but it’s the genuine motivation woven throughout that regular listeners appreciate. You’ll hear from a wide range of voices, from touring artists and label owners to promoters and even lawyers, all discussing the topics that actually matter. Past discussions have dug into navigating platforms like Spotify, the intricacies of getting music signed, and sustaining creative drive. Grahame’s approach is to bring out the inner perspective of his guests, moving beyond surface-level success stories to uncover the real strategies and personal challenges. This isn't just about inspiration; it's a resource built on shared experience. For DJs, producers, and anyone curious about the inner workings of the industry, this podcast offers a direct line to the people shaping the sound.
