Episode 364: EMF and Cell Phone Radiation

Author: Ali Miller RD October 2, 2023 Duration: 1:01:09

Did you know that cell phone radiation is classified by the World Health Organization as a possible carcinogen, in the same category as lead, DDT and jet fuel? Are you aware that the US is currently operating with safety guidelines set in 1996 when it comes to cell phones and EMF radiation? Did you know that cell phones have fine print warnings explicitly stating they should be kept at a distance from your body? Tune in to hear us interview Theodora Scarato of Environmental Health Trust about cell phone radiation and EMF dangers and what we can do about them!

Published studies have documented health effects of cell phone radiation beyond cancer including risk of cellular stress, genetic damage, structural and functional reproductive changes, memory deficits, neurological disorders, headaches and more. Learn about the risks of cell phones and EMF, current efforts to improve regulations, and what you can do in your own household to protect your family.

About Theodora Scarato:

Theodora Scarato MSW is Executive Director of Environmental Health Trust (EHT), a scientific think tank that publishes research and educates policymakers on environmental health issues.

EHT was the lead petitioner in a major lawsuit against the U.S. FCC which focused on several issues including the impact of telecommunications networks to human health and environment. In 2021 the US court of Appeals issued their judgment finding the FCC broke the law as they had not shown adequate review of the scientific evidence. The FCC was ordered by the court to address the science they ignored which included links between cell phone radiation and memory and fertility impacts. The FCC was also ordered to address long term exposure, children’s vulnerability, and wildlife impacts.

Scarato has co-authored several publications in the field of environmental health and policy and maintains EHT’s renowned EMF international policy database. Scarato has lectured at the National Institutes of Health, the University of California San Francisco and several international conferences. She has testified to the New Hampshire State 5G Commission as well as the Maine, New Hampshire and Maryland legislature. She has worked on various issues from technology, to breast cancer prevention to lead contaminated water.
