Season 4 Ep 2: Molly Weisgram on Writing, Recovery, and "Making Good"

Season 4 Ep 2: Molly Weisgram on Writing, Recovery, and "Making Good"

Author: Lisa Kuzman January 28, 2021 Duration: 38:51

For the first interview of season 4, I sat down with my dear friend Molly Weisgram to talk all about control, second chances, reframing the "victim" narrative — plus her debut book, The Other Side of Us: A Memoir of Trauma, Truth, and Transformation.

Long-time fans of the show probably remember my interview with Molly's husband, Chris Maxwell, back in season 3. In her upcoming book, Molly shares the story of Chris's sudden diagnosis of Guillain-Barre Syndrome, and the long, miraculous journey to recovery.

"I didn't want to frame myself as a victim. Writing ended up becoming the thing that allowed me to share, and maybe even moreso, process internally what was going on and finding a way to frame it as NOT a victim."

If you've ever been in Molly's shoes, as the partner to someone in a traumatic health situation, you'll definitely want to tune in for this one. Molly, thank you so much for all the wisdom and insights you share with the listeners today.

There's a quiet shift happening in how we think about authority and influence, and New Wave Leadership Podcast is right at the heart of it. Host Lisa Kuzman believes traditional, top-down leadership models have run their course, proving ineffective for today's complex world. Instead, this movement champions a much broader, more inclusive vision. Each episode digs into the real, often unspoken challenges that come with stepping into a role of influence, whether you're in a corner office, a community group, or simply leading your own life. The conversations here actively work to expand our definition of who gets to be a leader, arguing passionately for the necessity of diverse identities, perspectives, and lived experiences at the helm. You'll hear frank discussions about authenticity, the personal hurdles leaders navigate behind closed doors, and practical ideas for cultivating your own unique leadership identity without conforming to outdated standards. Tuning into this podcast feels like joining a necessary dialogue-one that moves beyond theory to explore what it genuinely means to show up and make an impact on your own terms.
