Season 6 Ep 16: Mickey MacKaben on Staying Open to Your True Nature

Season 6 Ep 16: Mickey MacKaben on Staying Open to Your True Nature

Author: Lisa Kuzman November 4, 2021 Duration: 51:36

My guest today is Mickey MacKaben, a healing artist, visual channel, and creative coach. Mickey has been curious and creative ever since she was a tiny human, and let me tell you — her curiosity and creativity comes through in just about every word this woman says!

This was such a deep, vibrant conversation that I know you're all going to love as much as I did. Mickey and I talked about:

  • Looking at the macro, not the micro, in your mindset
  • Practicing trust and mental vigilance
  • Making sure you step through the doors that you're asking to open
  • How she creates art, and the importance of how she approaches the canvas
  • Integrating your natural gifts with how you serve others

And be sure to listen until the end to hear her words of wisdom about "doing you" even when it feels weird or vulnerable!

"I spent a lot of time making myself wrong for not fitting into those boxes even though they made me miserable. I felt like I was dying inside, but I was willing to die to make sure I did it "right." I don't do that as much anymore. [...] So I am learning and have learned: when I am in my true nature, when I can embrace the truth of who I am and how it works best for me, I can fucking kick ass. I can bring the magic to my world. [...] It's so much better when you can do it in the way that's right for you."

There's a quiet shift happening in how we think about authority and influence, and New Wave Leadership Podcast is right at the heart of it. Host Lisa Kuzman believes traditional, top-down leadership models have run their course, proving ineffective for today's complex world. Instead, this movement champions a much broader, more inclusive vision. Each episode digs into the real, often unspoken challenges that come with stepping into a role of influence, whether you're in a corner office, a community group, or simply leading your own life. The conversations here actively work to expand our definition of who gets to be a leader, arguing passionately for the necessity of diverse identities, perspectives, and lived experiences at the helm. You'll hear frank discussions about authenticity, the personal hurdles leaders navigate behind closed doors, and practical ideas for cultivating your own unique leadership identity without conforming to outdated standards. Tuning into this podcast feels like joining a necessary dialogue-one that moves beyond theory to explore what it genuinely means to show up and make an impact on your own terms.
