Season 8 Episode 5: Being Honest About NOT Being Okay

Season 8 Episode 5: Being Honest About NOT Being Okay

Author: Lisa Kuzman October 13, 2022 Duration: 18:07

On this episode, I want to dig a little bit deeper into some of the things I touched on  last week. It's no secret that I'm going through a tough time right now — but why is it so uncommon to hear someone in a leadership position say that? We don't often hear leaders come out and say, "I don't want to compartmentalize, I want to feel my feelings, and I'm going to be honest about my capacity and take care of myself."

So let's talk what it's like to be honest about not being okay.

Note: right now, for me, this means that season 8 will play out a little bit differently than I had initially planned — and that's okay. I'm just glad you're here with me.

If you're someone who's been struggling and this is a topic that resonates with you, I hope you'll join a free event that I'll be running on November 1st. The goal is to have a frank discussion about how we move through things like this in real time, without compartmentalization, while telling the truth and managing our capacity (even if we don't have much).

There's a quiet shift happening in how we think about authority and influence, and New Wave Leadership Podcast is right at the heart of it. Host Lisa Kuzman believes traditional, top-down leadership models have run their course, proving ineffective for today's complex world. Instead, this movement champions a much broader, more inclusive vision. Each episode digs into the real, often unspoken challenges that come with stepping into a role of influence, whether you're in a corner office, a community group, or simply leading your own life. The conversations here actively work to expand our definition of who gets to be a leader, arguing passionately for the necessity of diverse identities, perspectives, and lived experiences at the helm. You'll hear frank discussions about authenticity, the personal hurdles leaders navigate behind closed doors, and practical ideas for cultivating your own unique leadership identity without conforming to outdated standards. Tuning into this podcast feels like joining a necessary dialogue-one that moves beyond theory to explore what it genuinely means to show up and make an impact on your own terms.
