Meanwhile, N. Rangasamy was sworn in as Puducherry Chief Minister for a fifth term after the National Democratic Alliance retained power in the Assembly elections. The All India NR Congress leader took oath at Lok Nivas in the presence of Lieutenant Governor Kuniyil Kailashnathan and senior BJP leaders.

In West Bengal, Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari decided to retain the Bhabanipur Assembly seat and vacate Nandigram after winning both constituencies in the recent Assembly elections. Adhikari had defeated Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee in Bhabanipur. His resignation from Nandigram is expected to lead to a by-election in the constituency closely linked to his political rise.
