Doughty Takes Captaincy With Cup in Sight | NHL News

Drew Doughty is taking the reins as captain of the Los Angeles Kings, bringing his 19 NHL seasons and championship pedigree to the forefront as he aims to reignite the team’s playoff glory. A franchise icon since being drafted second overall in 2008, Doughty’s leadership style—more vocal and emotional than his predecessor Anze Kopitar’s—is designed to spark the same championship fire that led to two Stanley Cups in 2012 and 2014. With the Kings stuck in first-round exits for five years, Doughty’s passion and pride make him the perfect leader to guide the charge. Joining him as alternate captains are Adrian Kempe, Mikey Anderson, and new arrival Artemi Panarin, signaling a new era of grit and determination as Doughty, who grew up a devoted Kings fan, steps into his most pivotal role yet: leading the team back to the top.
