Muharram Night 8 | Why Supplicate Without an Answer?

Muharram Night 8 | Why Supplicate Without an Answer?

Author: NYU Islamic Center August 17, 2021 Duration: 53:46
Join the IC Muharram Majlis program with recitation of the Quran, poetry from community members and a nightly lecture by Sheikh Faiyaz. Muharram–– the first month of the Islamic calendar–– demarcates a period of religious significance for Muslims across the globe, who annually commemorate the tragedy of Hussain ibn Ali, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, at the Battle of Karbala. Particular to Shia Muslim tradition, the first 10 days are historically spent mourning, grieving, and reflecting upon Hussain and his family’s spiritual sacrifice through lamentation poetry, nightly gatherings, and various forms of cultural expression. Muharram is not only centered around sorrow, but is also a time of community unity and harmony, bringing out themes of justice, love, beauty, generosity, compassion and fidelity to the Prophet and his family.

Stepping into the vibrant, often complex world of a university student can raise profound questions about faith, identity, and purpose. The NYU Islamic Center Podcasts, presented by the Islamic Center at New York University, creates a thoughtful space to explore these intersections. Rather than offering simple answers, these conversations delve into the rich tapestry of Islamic thought, connecting timeless spiritual knowledge with the realities of contemporary life. You'll hear discussions that feel both grounded and immediate, where scholars, community leaders, and students themselves reflect on how faith informs everything from personal ethics to engaging with current events. This isn't a lecture series, but a dynamic dialogue meant to accompany you. Each episode invites reflection, offering perspectives that are both intellectually rigorous and deeply personal, all stemming from the unique environment of NYU's diverse community. Tune into this podcast for a sincere and nuanced exploration of spirituality that acknowledges the questions of modern life while drawing from a well of ancient wisdom.
