Today’s SceneStop brings us to a mall in Orange County, Ca called South Coast Plaza. It is here that my friendship with Brian Chu was forged. I used to visit MC, the guitar player of ICE, on his lunch break when he worked at May Company. Numerous times I ran into people from the Sloth Crew and OC Hardcore Scene in this malls hallowed halls. Also, I bought (for the second time) a copy Sierra Championship Boxing, a game I still play!, at this mall. This video was done with my dear friend Rick Wilson aka Uncle Slam aka Brains. His home hosted the OKTOBERFEST in which ICE played with TRIGGERMAN. Together we took a walk down memory lane where I recalled Brains and I spending a lot of time at this mall, and he maintained that those times didn't happen. Enjoy! These videos are part of an ongoing video series chronicling the hardcore punk music scene. They are an addendum to the film Orange County Hardcore Scenester. This is a documentary I made that chronicles the 1990s hardcore punk scene. Hosted by Evan Jacobs, Orange County Hardcore Scenester: Aftermath is an ongoing interview series that picks up where the documentary left off. This podcast serves as a living addendum, diving deeper into the stories, personalities, and lasting impact of the 1990s hardcore punk scene in Orange County, California, while also branching out to connected scenes elsewhere. Each conversation is a direct continuation of that chronicle, moving beyond the historical record to capture the reflections and current perspectives of those who lived it. You'll hear unfiltered accounts from musicians, organizers, and fans who shaped a pivotal era, discussing not just the past but how those formative years resonate today. The tone is conversational and insider-driven, focusing on the nuanced memories and personal aftermath that a documentary format can only begin to explore. For anyone fascinated by the grassroots energy of regional music history, this podcast offers a raw, extended look at a community defined by its DIY ethos and relentless sound. It’s for listeners who want the context behind the chords and the stories behind the stage dives, presented as an essential oral history. Tune in for these long-form discussions that ensure the scene's legacy is detailed by the very people who made it, preserving the spirit and specifics that might otherwise fade.
