Singapore Airlines Under Fire After Passengers Waited 8 Hours On An Airbus A380 In Shanghai

•  Singapore Airlines faced heavy criticism for its poor handling of a technical issue on a recent flight from Shanghai, leaving passengers on the aircraft for nearly eight hours.

“One passenger said on the Chinese social media platform Sina Weibo that the fire occurred during the plane's descent, and that it went on for about 40 minutes.

After the plane was in danger, the crew handled the situation in accordance with procedures and organized passengers to implement timely evacuation. Changi Airport in Singapore also launched emergency procedures, according to Air China.

In addition, passengers are seen sliding down an emergency slide and running away from the plane in another video posted online. A man evacuates with his luggage, prompting netizens on Chinese social media platform Xiaohongshu to call him out for doing so.”

✈️ United Airlines Boeing 777 Returns To Newark After Possible Loss Of Cabin Pressure

• United Airlines Flight 510, operating on a Boeing 777-200ER, returned to Newark after detecting a cabin pressurization issue. The pilots safely landed the aircraft with no reported injuries.
•  The aircraft experienced a sudden descent from 37,000 ft to 9,000 ft within minutes following the pressurization issue. It then continued towards Newark for two hours before landing.
•  The root cause of the cabin depressurization event will be determined through further investigation.

✈️ United A321XLRs Getting New Polaris Seats, Premium Plus
In December 2019, United Airlines placed an order for 50 A321XLRs, which is Airbus’ new ultra long range and fuel efficient evolution of the A321. The plane is expected to enter service in 2024, though United will likely only start to take delivery of the plane in 2025 and beyond, so we still have a bit of a wait.

• United will primarily fly A321XLRs across the North Atlantic and to Latin America, so you can expect the planes to largely be on “long and thin” routes, like Newark to Bogota and Edinburgh
• United will not only use A321XLRs to replace Boeing 757-200s, but also to expand to some markets where the economics didn’t previously make sense, given that the A321XLR is more fuel efficient and longer range than the 757
• United will introduce an all new Polaris business class seat for the A321XLR, since the current Polaris seat can’t be installed on narrow body aircraft
• United will be installing Premium Plus premium economy on the A321XLR, which you’ll otherwise only find on wide body aircraft
