How a 'stop the war' campaign supported war

Author: The Communists May 28, 2026 Duration: 3:57
Taken from 'Imperialism on Trial – Joti Brar' ( • Imperialism on Trial – Joti Brar https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFbWgd23qIE) Joti Brar makes particular reference to the 2011 war of destabilisation and regime change waged by the US led NATO coalition against Libya in 2011. She relates this campaign in particular to the wider objective of the US to contain and subdue the independent nations of Russia and China, which stand in the way of US global economic and military domination. Libya had been the most prosperous, and arguably the most socially and economically egalitarian and progressive nation in Africa, until NATO waged an illegal war to destroy its government and infrastructure. John Rhees (SWP/Counterfire/StW) and Stop the War went out of their way to portray the regime change as a ‘popular revolution’ and the democratic anti-imperialist leadership of pre-2011 Libya as ‘a brutal dictatorship’. Andrew Murray (CPB/Labour) talked of the ‘democratic content’ of NATO’s colonial war. Owain Jones (Labour ‘left’ champion of Corbynistas everywhere) opined “we all want Gaddaffi’s overthrow dead or alive” and lent support to the NATO bombing to death of 50,000 Libyans. If any of these charlatains now dare to speak out against the Slavery of Black skins that is the result – they should be shouted down as the hypocrites they are. ______________________________________________ Subscribe! Produced by The Communists, this regular broadcast cuts through the noise of mainstream news to offer a class-based perspective on unfolding political crises, international conflicts, and the struggles of working people everywhere. Each episode delves into current events with a focus on material analysis, drawing from the theoretical framework of scientific socialism as developed by the CPGB-ML. You’ll hear detailed discussions that connect daily headlines to broader historical and economic forces, providing context often missing from other reports. This isn't just commentary; it's a tool for understanding the root causes of inequality and imperialism. The aim is to arm listeners with knowledge that informs action, fostering a deeper comprehension of how to challenge the status quo. For those seeking a substantive alternative to conventional news cycles, this podcast serves as both an educational resource and a call to collective organisation. The conversations here are built on the principle that to change the world, one must first systematically understand it.
