034 - Failure to Launch

Author: PS I Hate This Movie April 3, 2020 Duration: 1:26:01
We take a realistic look into the unrealistic world of romantic comedies that we LOVE to hate.

This Week -

Failure to Launch (2006)
Starring Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew McConaughey

A wonderful movie where we discuss two people who have made up jobs and spend their lives manipulating themselves, each other, and everyone they come in contact with.

We ask the tough questions, this week:
Do any adults really want to live at home with their parents?
Would we be better off grieving our losses if we just eat mint milanos?
How much nude Terry Bradshaw is too much nude Terry Bradshaw?

Listen to the podcast - then watch the movie or vice versa!
But stay home, please. What do you need to go out for? Maybe groceries?
Then go back home. Stay home. No need to go out. Pretend you're in an underground fallout shelter. It's therapeutic (and just safe, right now).

HEIGL Meter!!
A scale for movies. 5 Heigls = worst movie you've ever seen in your life, most painful. 1 Heigl = not bad.

Sarah: 5 Heigls
James: - 2 and 3/4 Heigls

Ever find yourself yelling at the screen during a supposedly charming meet-cute, or groaning at a grand gesture that would be a restraining order in real life? You're not alone. Comedians Sarah Hunt and James Pietragallo are right there with you in PS I Hate This Movie. Each episode, they grab a beloved romantic comedy by its rose-tinted glasses and give it a thorough, hilarious, and deeply realistic shake-down. This isn't just about pointing out plot holes-though there are plenty-it's about asking why we're so drawn to these films even as we recognize their absurdities. You'll hear them dissect the questionable life choices, the outdated tropes, and the sheer logistics of love stories that defy all reason, all while celebrating the strange comfort of the genre. Their chemistry turns each deep dive into a conversation that feels like hanging out with your most opinionated friends. For anyone who has ever had a passionately conflicted relationship with a rom-com, this podcast offers the perfect blend of critique and nostalgia, making you laugh at the nonsense while maybe, secretly, still loving it a little.
