229. Andrew Feldman's 50 Years of Guiding Psychedelic Journey's, A Warning

Author: Roger K. McFillin, Psy.D., ABPP May 7, 2026 Duration: 1:32:27

Andrew Feldmar has been guiding people through psychedelic journeys for over 50 years. He trained directly with R.D. Laing in London, worked with Stanislav Grof at Esalen, practiced at Hollywood Hospital when LSD was still legal medicine, and took part in the first MAPS Canada MDMA research for PTSD. A Hungarian-born psychotherapist who fled the 1956 revolution alone at 16, he has spent a lifetime refusing to pathologize normal human suffering. With the President signing an executive order to fast track psychedelics through the FDA, this conversation could not be more timely. Andrew explains why medicalizing these medicines is a grotesque category mistake, what gets lost when ceremony and relationship are replaced by sterile hospital protocols, and why the source only opens up between people. His new book, Radical Adventure: An Inquiry into Psychedelic Psychotherapy (Karnac Books, 2025), is a quiet act of resistance against the venture capital takeover of sacred work. If we're going to talk about psychedelics in 2026, we need to talk to someone who knew what they were before the industry came for them.

Hosted by board-certified psychologist Dr. Roger McFillin, the Radically Genuine Podcast is a direct challenge to the superficial and often ineffective narratives that dominate discussions about wellness. This isn't about quick fixes or polite self-help tropes. Instead, Dr. McFillin engages in substantive, sometimes uncomfortable dialogues that dissect how cultural trends, the fitness industry, and the mental health system itself can sometimes hinder genuine healing. You'll hear from a compelling range of voices-including survivors of adversity, clinical experts, and independent thinkers-all united by a commitment to raw truth over feel-good fiction. The conversations within this podcast deliberately avoid easy answers, focusing instead on the complex, gritty work of building authentic resilience and psychological strength. It’s for anyone who suspects that mainstream advice has failed to address the root causes of personal and societal struggle, offering a deeper, more nuanced examination of human behavior and recovery. By confronting controversial topics and institutional failings without flinching, each episode aims to provide listeners with a more honest framework for navigating life's inevitable challenges, making it a distinctly valuable voice in the health and society podcast landscape.
