Knowledge Natter: Hypertension: Enhancing the identification and treatment of at-risk patients

Author: RCVS Knowledge December 9, 2024 Duration: 19:49
In this Knowledge Natter, Lou Northway speaks to Lizzie McLennan-Green from CVS about their award winning project using clinical audit to look into blood pressure monitoring in cats. By creating a wide range of guidance documents and providing team training, the Clinical Leadership Team increased blood pressure monitoring, and enabled earlier identification and treatment of hypertension in cats aged 7 years or older. This nationwide initiative was awarded Champion in the 2024 Quality Improvement Awards, recognising the contribution of all team members involved in the project. Read the case example here. Tune in to RCVS Knowledge-Evidence-based Veterinary Medicine for thoughtful conversations that bridge the gap between published research and the daily realities of veterinary practice. This podcast, presented by RCVS Knowledge, delves into how the principles of evidence-based medicine can be directly applied to improve care for a wide range of animals, from family pets to livestock. Each episode features discussions with clinicians, researchers, and specialists who explore the practical interpretation of scientific studies, clinical guidelines, and systematic reviews. Listeners will gain insights into critically appraising new information, implementing proven techniques, and navigating the complexities of treatment decisions when definitive evidence is still emerging. Geared towards veterinary professionals and students, the content also resonates with dedicated pet owners in the science and family categories who seek a deeper understanding of animal health. The overall aim is to foster a culture of informed inquiry within the veterinary community, moving beyond tradition to prioritize the best available evidence for every patient. This series is an audio extension of a broader mission to advance the quality and consistency of care across the profession.
