They explode during economic crises and world instability and that cannot be a coincidence.
For me, it started in the 90s when I fell for Lestat in high school. Then I watched the genre absolutely dominate in 2008 after the financial crisis with series like Black Dagger Brotherhood. The mid-2010s brought a decline, but now paranormal alphas are back stronger than ever starting with the romantasy boom.
