Duration: 25:36
Carrie Slater was 37 years old when she was found with a catastrophic head injury inside a quiet bungalow in the village of Long Clawson. When her partner, Richard Basson, called 999, he claimed it was an accident… that Carrie had somehow walked into a pool cue during an argument over a cigarette. But within moments of arriving at the scene, police knew something wasn’t right. The injury didn’t match the story, the evidence didn’t line up, and as detectives began to piece together what had really happened inside that house, Richard's version of events began to unravel. What they would uncover was a far darker reality... one involving an illegal firearm, a history of violence, and a carefully constructed lie that Richard hoped would save him from the consequences of his actions. In this episode of REDRUM, we examine the final hours of Carrie Slater’s life, the controlling relationship that preceded her death, and the forensic evidence that exposed the truth behind a story so implausible it shocked even experienced investigators. From the chilling 999 call to the courtroom, this is a case raises unsettling questions about coercion, accountability, and how far someone will go to cover up the unthinkable.
